I can't be Bello's Deputy says Faleke

ALTHOUGH the All Progressives Congress (APC) was yesterday declared the winner of the Kogi State governorship election that was concluded at the weekend, intra-party wrangling is apparently dampening the celebration that should follow the electoral victory.
The running mate to the late Abubakar Audu, the APC candidate in the November 21 governorship election and deputy governor-elect James Abiodun Faleke, yesterday insisted that he would not be deputy to the governor-elect, Yahaya Bello.
Bello, who replaced the late Audu, for last Saturday’s supplementary election held in 91 polling units, was in the early hours of yesterday declared winner of the polls by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Basking in the euphoria of victory, Bello explained his acceptance to replace Audu as an act of obedience to party supremacy. He insisted that Falake remained his deputy since his position as running mate was not affected.
Bello who spoke to reporters in reaction to his victory as the winner of the supplementary election said Faleke remained the deputy-governor elect as the position was never vacant.
His words: “The former candidate of the party died. INEC requested the party to substitute, and I was chosen to fill the gap. The space of the running mate was never vacant. So if I respond to run on that platform, I don’t think I have any choice but to respect the decision of the party.”
Bello who was dressed in an all white traditional garb called agbada said his reaction to the results was that of ecstasy. However, he said the jubilation was low-keyed because of the death of Abubakar Audu who he described as their great leader.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as a waste of time and scarce national resources and a ridiculous shadow-chasing, the action of INEC in declaring Bello the governor-elect.
The PDP said INEC, in the bid to satisfy the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC Federal Government, succeeded only in making a mockery of itself and the entire electoral process, by trying to illegally install an individual who, apart from not being a valid candidate, scored, under his name, a paltry 6,885 vote in the so-called supplementary election as
against the 204,877 votes polled by the PDP candidate, Governor Idris Wada in the overall election.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Sunday said that “the action of INEC in trying to transfer the votes earlier garnered by the dead APC candidate, Prince Audu Abubakar to another
individual is completely impractical and alien to the nation’s Constitution and the Electoral Act.”
Faleke had sued the INEC and others for declaring the November 21 polls inconclusive and sought to stop the supplementary election but lost the case on Friday when the Federal High Court, Abuja Division insisted that only election tribunals had jurisdiction on such matters.

Chelsea Back To ‘Free Promo’

Glenn Murray’s late header gave Bournemouth a famous win at Stamford Bridge and ratcheted up the pressure on Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

The 82nd-minute goal, scored after Chelsea failed to clear a corner, moves Eddie Howe’s side up to 17th place.

It also makes them the first promoted side to beat Chelsea at home since Charlton in April 2001.

But it leaves the defending champions in 14th place, 14 points adrift of the Champions League places.

PDP condemns declaration of Yahaya Bello as Kogi governor-elect

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as a waste of time, scarce national resources and ridiculous shadow-chasing, the action of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in declaring one Yahaya Bello, purported to be of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and who did not participate in the overall election, as Kogi State governor-elect.

Buhari’s Trips Are In Order says Ogunsanwo

The President has been criticised in some quarters over his numerous trips. Considering domestic challenges, are these trips unnecessary

IF we are talking about the president’s trips to Iran, Malta and France, these are necessary events he needed to attend. Frankly, they are in order. There is really nothing going on at home that his ministers and other government functionaries cannot handle.
But questions have been raised about the importance of some of these international organisations to Nigeria’s interest. How relevant do you consider, for example, the Commonwealth of Nations to Nigeria’s aspirations?

EFCC Arraigns Hacker Over N68bn Theft

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday arraigned one Stephen Omaidu before Justice M. A Nasir of Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Jabi, Abuja on a two count charge bordering on theft to the tune of N68, 028, 000, 000.00 (sixty eight billion and twenty eight million naira).
Omaidu, in connivance with Alhaji K. B Kabiru, Godswill Oyegwa, Ben and Oliver (all at large) allegedly hacked into the server of a second generation bank and transferred the sum of sixty eight billion, and twenty eight million naira into different accounts for personal gains.
The offence is punishable under section 287 of the Penal Code Act.
Following his “not guilty” plea, counsel to EFCC, S. A. Ugwuebgulam asked the court to fix a date for trial to commence.
However, defence counsel, Gabriel O. Sanifu urged the court to admit the accused to bail pending trial saying, the offence is bailable.
Ugwuebgulam objected to the application on the ground that the accused had failed to honour the administrative bail terms earlier granted him by the Commission and could do same if not remanded by the court.
Justice Nasir ordered the accused to be remanded in the custody of the EFCC and adjourned the case to April 28, 2015 for ruling on the bail application.

SPORTS: Pep Guardiola Still Not Satisfied With Bayern Munich, Despite First-Half Blitz In 6-1 Porto Thrashing

Pep Guardiola was elated with Bayern Munich’s 6-1 demolition of Porto in the quarter finals of the Champions League – but said a blistering first half still wasn’t perfect.
Trailing the Portuguese champions by two goals from the first leg, Bayern sent a warning out to their European rivals as five first-half strikes equalled, and then surpassed, Porto’s first leg lead.
Xabi Alonso completed the victory with a sumptuous free-kick two minutes from time as the Bundesliga side secured a place in the last four.
Guardiola was left praising his side’s resilience after they produced a performance of stark contrast to that seen at the Estadio do Dragao – where they lost 3-1 – but still can see room for improvement.
“At this moment, it’s easy to love my players,” he said. “We played very differently to the first leg.
“We couldn’t have achieved what we have without a fight. Many thanks to my players: they have made me very happy.”
Despite their blistering display at the Allianz Arena, Guardiola balked when asked if his side had produced 45 minutes of ‘perfect football’.
“No, it wasn’t perfect. It could have been better,” he added. “Julen Lopetegui made changes at the break and it was dangerous in the second-half.
“You can’t afford to take a nap or switch off in a Champions League game.
“Now I’m looking forward to sitting in front of the television and watching Friday’s draw.
“We have the chance to win the German league title on Saturday and then we have to prepare for the German Cup semi-final against Borussia Dortmund.”

Wilshere to Man City? Arsenal don't need to sell their stars - Wenger

The 23-year-old is being monitored by the Premier League champions after another injury-hit season in north London but his manager insists he is going nowhere

Arsene Wenger insists Arsenal are no longer forced to sell their best players amid reports linking Jack Wilshere with a move to Manchester City.

Goal understands City are monitoring Wilshere's situation as they prepare to refresh a squad that looks unlikely to defend last season's Premier League title and is one of the oldest of any major club in Europe.

Recent years have seen Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy make a similar switch from north London to Manchester but Wenger insists that Wilshere, who has struggled with form and fitness this season, is going nowhere.

When asked about the possibility of the midfielder joining City, Wenger replied: "We are not in a position anymore where we have to sell our best players."

Wilshere has made just 12 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal this season, scoring one goal.

‘THERE’S NO EXCUSE TO FAIL,’ APC LEADER WARNS PARTY CHIEFTAINS AHEAD OF LAGOS POLLS-BOLA TINUBU

National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged chieftains of the party to mobilize their supporters to vote during the April 11 governorship polls.
Tinubu also criticized the leaders for allowing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) win five House of Representatives seats in the state during the March 28 National Assembly elections.
The APC leader stated this on Thursday, April 9, 2015 during an emergency stakeholders held at the APC Lagos Secretariat in Ikeja.
“You, the party leaders have disappointed us. For the first time, we lost five House of Representatives seats to the opposition party. This is unacceptable. It is a huge disappointment. Though in politics, you win some, you lose some, you have failed. So there is no excuse to fail this time,” Tinubu said.
“Also, you did not come out in large numbers. Were you afraid? You have no cause to be afraid as there was adequate security to protect you and your property. So don’t be intimidated by the sporadic shootings, meant to scare you away from doing your civic rights. The Hausa communities had a very good and encouraging turn-out, we expect better performance this time,” he added.
Those present at the meeting were State Chairman of the party, Henry Ajomale, Senators Oluremi TinubuGbenga Ashafa and Olamilekan Adeola among others.

APC Exposes PDP’s ‘Rigging Plan’ For Lagos

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over what it described as the ruling party’s desperation to capture Lagos State at all costs, including using fake result sheets which were allegedly flown in from Abuja for Saturday’s elections, warning that the people will resist any attempt to rob them of their votes.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the rigging plans are being led allegedly by President Goodluck Jonathan, who has already flown into Lagos where he has held a meeting with his point men, including Musiliu Obanikoro, Jimi Agbaje and Gani Adams.
It said that before the meeting, eagle-eyed Nigerians who were appalled by the PDP’s alleged rigging plans have widely circulated on the Social Media the details of the planned electoral malfeasance, including the airlifting from Abuja to Lagos of a Black Kia Mohave SUV, with plate number DHQ 340, which was packed with election materials (especially result sheets).
”The meeting in Lagos was aimed at devising a strategy to distribute the fake result sheets that were packed into the SUV, which will be free to move around (because of its plate number) despite the restriction on vehicular movement during the elections.
”It is sad that the same President, who conceded defeat in the presidential election and then followed up with a speech in which he said he would like his ‘legacy’ of free and fair elections to endure, is the one who is presiding over a desperate move to steal the people’s votes on Saturday.
”How can President Jonathan’s ‘legacy’ endure when one of his last acts in office is a seeming vengeance mission to lead his party to capture Lagos, because the PDP sees the state as a cash cow that they can milk to death, with the party’s gravy train at the federal level having derailed?” the party queried.
”In their desperation over the Lagos election, they have shamelessly divided the people along ethnic, religious and regional lines, thus setting the stage for the condemnable hate speeches to which they have in turn latched on to further whip up primordial sentiments.
”The PDP cannot now seek to benefit from the problems it caused in the first instance. This party (PDP) and its leader, the President, have divided Nigerians in general and Lagos residents in particular more than any individual or group and at any time in history. If today things are being said that should not have been said, it is the direct consequence of the PDP’s divisiveness,” APC added.
The party advised the President to desist from any vengeance mission that will only rubbish whatever is left of his so called legacy of free and fair elections.
It urged all APC members and supporters, and indeed all the good people of Lagos, to be extra vigilant on Saturday to thwart the evil machinations of the fallen behemoth called the PDP.
”Lagosians, please come out en masse on Saturday and vote in a peaceful manner for a candidate of your choice. Say no to coercion, defend your votes and repudiate all architects of divisiveness and rigging,” APC said

Gang Demand N15m For Return Of 3 Abducted Kids In Lagos

The phoney female nanny hired through website, OLX and her gang of conspirators have demanded a N15 million ($76K) ransom for the release of the three Orekoya kids – Aderomola, (11 months), Adedamola (4 years) and Demola (6 years), that she abducted after she was hired to care for them in the Lawanson district of Surulele, Lagos.
THEWILL had earlier reported that the nanny identified as Mary Akinloye (possibly a phoney name), abducted the kids on April 8th, barely a day after she started working for the Orekoyas.
Sources close to the Orekoya family told THEWILL that the nanny and her gang called the parents of the kids Thursday and demanded N15m if they want to see them again.
Pictures of the missing children have gone viral on social media since their abduction became public knowledge.
The young nanny who claimed to be 23 years old, was contracted via the website OLX, a retail sales and service marketplace.
The mother of the missing kids, Adebisi told a local newspaper that she put up a post for a new nanny on the website because the main family nanny did not show up for work after her annual leave.
“We had someone who was taking care of the kids before now. But the woman did not show up on Saturday and Sunday and we urgently needed someone to assist because we were going to resume work on Monday. We were disturbed and that was why I posted the information on OLX,” the distraught mother said.
Leke, the kids’ father, said the nanny provided references who she claimed were her ‘relatives’, who they spoke to via telephone and agreed to a face to face meeting before finalizing the nanny’s employment. The ‘relatives’ have been unreachable since the incident.
The police in Lagos have since commenced investigations into the crime but no suspect has been detained.
The family wants anyone with key information concerning the abducted kids to contact the nearest police station or the Orekoya family on 08052062117.

Impeachment: Ekiti Assembly Writes CJ, Demands Panel To Investigate Fayose

Ekiti State House of Assembly has written to the State Chief Judge‎, Mr. Justice Ayodeji Daramola, asking him to set up a panel to investigate allegations raised in the impeachment notice to Governor Ayodele Fayose

At a special sitting held at M‎ary Hills Boys High School, Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday, the lawmakers said they relied on Section 101 of the 1999 Constitution as amended which empowers the Assembly to regulate their sittings, including sitting in a public building within the state capital if conditions exist in the hallowed chamber that endanger members’ lives.
Majority Leader, Churchill Adedipe, Irepodun/Ifelodun Constituency One, explained that the sitting ought to have taken place in the hallowed chamber on April 7 but members were waylaid by thugs who mounted roadblock and threatening their lives with dangerous weapons, thereby making them to abandon going to the Assembly.
Relying on Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), Adedipe moved the motion empowering the Chief Judge to set up the panel.
His motion was seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Adetunji Orisalade, representing Ido/Osi Constituency Two.
After debates, the lawmakers in a unanimous vote supported the motion‎ directing the chief judge to set up the panel.
The House later adjourned to Friday.

Top Politicians Who Defect to APC from PDP After Buhari Emerged President-elect

The popular saying "No permanent friends of enemies in politics, but permanent interests" was further exemplified in the Nigerian political circuit in the last few days.

Since the 'wind of change' blew away the PDP's dominance in Nigeria, especially with the emergence of Gen Muhammadu Buhari as the president-elect after 16 years of PDP rule, many top politicians are beginning to dump the PDP for the newly elected APC.

Below are some of the politicians that defected to the All Progressive Congress after the victory of its presidential candidate Gen Muhammadu Buhari

  • Ex-Edo state Governor, Osarhemen Osunbor, dumped PDP for APC.

      • PDP governorship candidate Maj-Gen. Charles Arhiavbere (rtd) also dumped the PDP

      • In Kwara Gbemi Saraki, younger sister to Senator Bukola Saraki and the PDP youth leader in the state defected to APC.

      • Dr. Olusola Oke, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2012 governorship election in Ondo state has concluded plans to defect officially to the All Progressives Congress (APC)

      • The current Jigawa State deputy governor, Ahmad Mahmud also jumped the ship from the PDP to APC

      • Brigadier Gen Chris Onja (rtd) and former AGF Michael Aondoakaa dumped the PDP in Benue state

      • In Oyo state Mrs. Ayoka Lawani, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also crossed over to the APC

      • The Majority Leader in the Gombe State House of Assembly Hon. Mamman Alkalio, was among the hundreds of politicians from the ruling Peoples Democratic party (PDP), who defected to the APC.

      • In Abia state, mother of the former State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu Elder (Mrs.) Eunice Uzor Kalu, leader of the Reality Organisation in the South-East and and her members joined the APC. Also, former member of the House of Representatives and brother to the ex-governor, Hon Nnanna Uzor Kalu and ex-Chief of Staff to Governor Theodore Orji, Mr. Mascot Uzor Kalu, joined the APC.

      • Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, has also left the party.

In a letter dated March 29, and addressed to the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, Nwuche said he “had watched with dismay the party’s descent into cabalism and god-fatherism as certain individuals became practical owners of the party’s structures and ensured that many persons with capacity and integrity had no opportunity to serve and remained shut out of governance.”

He blamed PDP leaders for not being able to stand up in defence of the truth and in support of the representational democracy, adding that his decision to quit the party was made a long time but was delayed in order to allow conclusion of the presidential poll.

However the Senate President David Mark, has called the defectors 'fair weather friends'

He even vowed to remain in PDP even if it meant he would be the last man standing.

Governor Aliyu of Niger state also vowed to dump politics instead of defecting to APC.

He also refered to the defectors as ”stomach politicians”

As we edge closer to the governorship polls and the May 29th handover date, we can be sure to expect the 'wind of change' to blow more top politicians,

      So what next?
